March 17. 2018 After disembarking the Windstar Pride we flew Delta from San Juan to Atlanta where we stayed over night. The next morning we picked up a rental car and drove to Savannah.
We had always wanted to explore the East Coast of the US, and thus over the next 18 days we drove back home spending time in Savannah, Wilmington, NC, Kitty Hawk and finally Baltimore. We returned home on April 4th.
Savannah, seven nights
The drive to Savannah was easy, but not particularly scenic. We stayed at the mid-town Residence Inn and were treated very nicely. Only complaint was that a/c in gym was not working and Eleanor was not able to use the treadmill.
The historic district of Savannah was very enjoyable, but parking was difficult and other than one enjoyable lunch at the Pirate's House, most of our time was spent touring the surrounding area including theSavannah National Wildlife Refuge, Tybee Island, Fort Pulaski, and Bluffton. Bluffton was much larger and developed than we had envisioned. Lots of subdivisions with houses close together. The old town was quaint, but very small.
Wilmington, three nights.
We drove through Charleston, SC and were sorry we had not planned our travel time to allow for a couple of days.
