May 5th to 10th We decided to stay in Nice for a few days at the conclusion of our cruise on the
Silversea Spirit from Barbados to Monte Carlo. We were met at pier side by a driver and driven to the Le
Meridien in near by Nice. All went smoothly and we were at the hotel by 10 AM and our room was ready for
We decided upon the Meridien because we were able to use our Starwood Reward Points for the room,
and were pleasantly surprised by its prime location. After being on the cruise for the previous 23 days
food was not a high priority for us, so we just ate at local sidewalk cafés which were adequate. The prices
at the hotel were exorbitant. I was going to have a piece of pie one night when we returned to the hotel
until I saw the price - 12 euros which equated to $16.
We did enjoy walking around and seeing all of the amazing architecture. There were many small parks with
beautiful roses and other flowers in bloom, There is also a boardwalk that runs along the beach for about
4.3 miles. The beach is short on sand and long on gravel, but that did not deter the sunbathers.
Our timing was good as we were at the start of the season, but one week ahead of the Cannes film festival
and two weeks before the Grand Prix at Monte Carlo which will bring in the hordes and triple the prices of
